Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteJames Urquhart Jackson (1856-1925) of Augusta, GA was a financer, railroad builder, and developer known primarily for founding and developing the city of North Augusta, South Carolina. Jackson's parents were George and Catherine Jackson. Jackson attended Richmond Academy in 1873, then the University of Georgia, graduating with a Bachelor's degree in 1876. Jackson married Minnie Falligant (1857-1883) in Athens, Georgia. They had two children: Robert and Walter. Jackson married Edith Barrington King in 1889, they had four children: Daisy, Edith, James, Jr., and John. Scope and ContentThis collection contains information regarding the family of James U. Jackson including articles, photographs, newspaper clippings, and ephemera. Included are historic materials regarding the Hampton Terrace Hotel, North Augusta, South Carolina, and Roswell, Georgia. Also of interest is a scrapbook of clippings regarding the Chattanooga-Augusta-Charleston and Seaboard Railroads, and the Augusta-Aiken Electric Line.
