Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteShepherd Green Pryor (1828-1911) was a planter, Confederate soldier, and resident of Sumter County, Georgia. Scope and ContentThe collection consists of the papers of Shepherd Green Pryor from 1837-1863. The majority of the collection contains letters (1861-1863) between Green and his wife, Penelope, while he served with Company A of the 12th Georgia Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. The letters are mainly from camps in Virginia while the Company fought through the Valley Campaign, the Seven Days Battle, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg. The collection also includes deeds, photographs of and biographical material on the Pryor family of Sumter County (Ga.), and a typescript of most of the Civil War letters.
