Millard Grimes papers
Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteJournalist Millard Grimes, a Georgia native, wrote for a number of publications in the state, including the Athens Daily News, the Columbus Ledger, and the Red and Black, the student newspaper at the University of Georgia. As an editor and publisher, Millard Grimes produced print across the state. Grimes also twice owned the business magazine Georgia Trend, which he sold for the second time in 1999. He is author of the book The Last Linotype: The Story of Georgia and Its Newspapers since World War II (1985). For more information, see the article "Millard B. Scope and ContentThe collection consists of five series: administrative records, professional papers, agreements and transactions, correspondence, and other material. Administrative records include documents related to the operating and publishing of GA Trend, the Phenix Citizen, and the Rockdale Citizen among other Grimes Publications productions. Professional papers include material from the Georgia Press Association, which Millard Grimes headed in 1985-1986, drafts and photographs from The Last Linotype: The Story of Georgia and Its Newspapers since World War II, as well as newspaper columns by Grimes and those about his career written by other newspapers. Agreements and transactions includes negotiations and legal documents created during business agreements and transactions between Grimes Publications and other entities. Professional correspondence and other material including photographs and civic engagement complete the collection.
