Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteIn October of 1896, R.E. Elliott Sr. started his funeral home in Augusta, Georgia and helped it grow into one of the largest in the area. His first establishment was located over his furniture store on Broad Street, but soon moved to Eleventh and Ellis Streets. Years later, the funeral home moved to Telfair Street. Mr. Elliott was notable as the first undertaker in Georgia to use motorized funeral hearses. After his death in 1935 his family continued the business. Scope and ContentThe collection consists of four bills for the services of funeral director and embalmer R. E. Elliott. The bills are charged to Charles Hood for services to the deceased Mr. M. J.
