Cobb's Legion requisitions
Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteCobb's Legion was also known as the Georgia Legion in the American Civil War. It was led by Thomas Reade Rootes Cobb and raised in the summer of 1861. A legion was a military unit with a single commander but consisted of several components such as infantry, cavalry, and artillery. Cobb's Legion fought many major battles, including Yorktown, Seven Days Battles, Sharpsbrug, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, Chickamauga, The Wilderness, Cold Harbor, and Petersburg, among others. They surrendered at the Appomattox Court House in April of 1865. Scope and ContentThe collection consists of four requisitions submitted for Company B of Cobb's legion while stationed at Camp Marion near Yorktown, Virginia. Supplies listed include cookware, tools for winter quarters, and forage for horses. Each document is signed by Captain Benjamin C.
