She is best known for her novels The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter, The Ballad of the Sad Café, Reflections in a Golden Eye, and The Member of the Wedding, all published between 1940 and 1946. McCullers writes in response to his inquiry about her relationship with Wright and wishes Fabre "inspiration for the work you have chosen to do." The letter is typed, signed, and framed with a photo of McCullers. The collection also includes a carbon copy of her short story, "The Sojourner."
