Scope and ContentThe collection consists of one letter, dated October 13, 1827, written by Thomasson de Lamassée in Savannah, Georgia to the Superintendents for Public Health at Marseilles. He describes the local conditions surrounding the yellow fever outbreak in the Savannah area, including the lack of precautions by citizens, poor ventilation in homes, and the lack of monitoring of the disease by authorities. He indicates that he has shared with local doctors the idea that the disease is the result of local conditions, and not contagious.
