Eugene Patterson collection
Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteEugene Patterson (1923-2013), born in Valdosta, Georgia, earned his journalism degree from the University of Georgia in 1943 before enlisting in the Army. After the war, Patterson joined the Macon Telegraph, then he worked for the United Press in Atlanta, South Carolina, and London. Patterson served as editor for the Atlanta Constitution during the civil rights conflicts of the 1960s and later the managing editor of The Washington Post and editor of The St. Petersburg Times. Scope and ContentThe collection includes photocopies of Patterson's column from 1960 to 1968, The Bridge Behind: some notes on family history, and correspondence with Dean of the Grady College of Jounalism Cully Clark 2008 to 2012.
