Korine-Dunlap collection
Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteBlaine Dunlap (b. 1953), studied documentary filmmaking with Stephen Schmidt at Southern Methodist University. After attending the Sinking Creek Film Celebration in Nashville in 1974, Dunlap moved to Tennessee. He and Sol Korine recorded the Fiddlers' Jamboree in 1975, the finished program Showdown at the Hoedown aired on PBS in 1977. In 1976, Dunlap and Broadside TV produced Symphony No. 5 and Sol Korine, along with the Tennesee Folklore Society, received an NEA gran to produce documentaries about Uncle Dave Macon and Hamper McBee. The film Hamper McBee: Raw Mash aired on PBS in 1978. In 1981, Southbound, a ten part anthology of southern folk music was released. Scope and ContentThis collection includes correspondence, contracts, budgets, promotional materials, notes, and photographs, related to several projects involving Blaine Dunlap and Sol Korine. The programs include Singing Creek Film Celebration, Showdown at the Hoedown, Symphony #5, and Hamper McBee: Raw Mash. Administrative InformationConditions Governing AccessThough the collection is open for research, the audiovisual recordings do not have reference copies; however, reference copies are available upon request. Audiovisual research requests are dependent upon the format and condition of the recordings.
