Marie Mellinger collection
Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteMarie Barlow Mellinger (1914-2006) was a teacher, naturalist, conservationist and scholar. She served as the first non-Atlanta president of the Georgia Botanical Society and authored the Atlas of Vascular Flora of Georgia. Mellinger led seminars titled "Incredible Wild Edibles" focused on wild flowers and plants suitable for eating as well as medicinal herbs. Additionally, she served as one of the plant advisors to the early Foxfire books. Scope and ContentThis collection consists of Marie Mellinger's index of flower and nonflowering plants as well as slides, a copy of her book, Atlas of the Vascular Flora of Georgia, and several handmade scrapbooks about plants. The index includes illustrations, photographs, and cuttings from plants.
