Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteBeirne Gordon, born in Huntsville, Alabama in 1856, was, during the 1890s, Captain of the Georgia Hussars, Troop A, 5th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry headquartered in Savannah, Georgia. He wasa also president of the Chatham Bank of Savannah and member of the cotton firm W. W. Gordon and Co. Scope and ContentThe collection contains a scrapbook of clippings about the Georgia Hussars, Troop A, 5th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry and Captain Beirne Gordon, dated 1891 to 1894. The scrapbook includes photographs of Captain Beirne Gordon on horseback. The collection also includes three photographs apart from the scrapbook: a portrait of Captain Gordon from the 1890s, a portrait of a young Ambrose Gordon, circa 1900, and a photocopied image of the cavalry.
