Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteJack Izlar, Sr. (1926-2008), a native of Augusta, Georgia, worked as a postal executive and postmaster. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was married to Mary Ellis Jones Izlar and had three sons: Jack, Jr., Charles, and Robert. Scope and ContentThe collection includes photographs of Jack Izlar, Sr., his fellow servicemen, and area locals during Izlar's U.S. Navy service in the Pacific Theater of World War II. It also includes a genealogy of the Jones family, a 1929 motor vehicle registration card issued to William William Jones, a handwritten letter from Izlar to his mother inscribed on a menu for the 1943 U.S. Naval Air Station Thanksgiving dinner, a newsletter from The Shoreliner announcing the end of the war, a photocopied announcement for the Jones-Knight wedding, and an official certificate of registration from the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation recognizing William William Jones' immigration to the United States from Wales.
