Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteThomas Morgan (1910-2004) graduated West Point High School in 1930 and then attended Emory University, where he led the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. After graduating in 1934 with engineering and political economy degrees, Morgan joined the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. In the late 1940s, he served in the Georgia Legislature. He was the mayor of West Point, Georgia, from 1956 to 1965. He was also the president of the Fourth District of the Georgia Municipal Association. He continued to help lead the Georgia Municipal Association for some time in the 1960s, while also presiding over the Morgan Contracting Company and Morgan Real Estate. He and his wife Lavinia were married for sixty-six years. Scope and ContentThis collection consists of correspondence and other written documents. Letters are from friends, family, colleagues, coworkers, employees, employers, and constituents.
