Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteJohn Milton served as Georgia's first Secetary of State from 1779-1799. He was elected three times and is credited with saving the state's official records when under British occupation. He is also noted for receiving electoral votes from Georgia for becoming America's first president. Edward Telfair (1735-1807) served three terms as Georgia's governor in the late 1700s. Scope and ContentThe collection consists of one letter: dated Secretary's Office, October 21, 1791, to Governor Edward Telfair concerning a manuscript book belonging to Chatham County's office of probate which had been removed from the state in the late war.
