Samuel A. Green letters to Wymberely Jones De Renne
Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteSamuel Abbott Green (1830-1919) was an American physician-turned-politician from Massachusetts who served as mayor of Boston in 1882. He also served as a Colonel in the American Civil War. Wymberley Jones De Renne (1853-1916) helped to maintain the Wormsloe estate, which his father George Wymberley Jones De Renne (born George Frederick Tilghman Jones) owned and left to his grandchildren. Wormsloe is now a state historic site near Savannah, Georgia, that is comprised of the remains of Wormsloe Plantation, which was originally established by one of Georgia's founders and a De Renne ancestor, Noble Jones. Wymberley De Renne also published several works for the Georgia Historical Society, continuing the work of his father, who published a periodical collection of rare early Georgia documents under the title "Wormsloe Quartos." Scope and ContentThis collection contains two letters from Samuel A. Green to Wimberly Jones De Renne concerning the return of some volumes to De Renne that once belonged to the Wormsloe library.
