Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteThe Confederate States of America formed when the Southern states seceded from the Union and in doing so initiated the Civil War. The only person to hold the Confederate Presidential office was Jefferson Davis, who was President from February 18, 1861, to May 5, 1865, his Vice President being Alexander Hamilton Stephens. Scope and ContentThis collection contains an electoral ticket from the Confederate Presidential Election listing Jefferson Davis for President and Alexander H. Stephens for Vice President. On the back is the signature of an unknown man, John Leach.
