Collection DescriptionHistorical NotePrivate Asa A. Winn was enlisted in Company K, 3rd Georgia Infantry, Confederate Army, on April 25, 1861. He was wounded in battle at Sharpsburg, Maryland on September 17, 1862. Winn transferred to Company D, Cobb's Legion Georgia Infantry. He was elected 2nd Lieutenant in February of 1865 and subsequently captured at Sailor's Creek, Virginia, on April 6, 1865. He was released on June 11, 1865. Scope and ContentThe collection consists of three letters: dated Camp near Goose Creek, Louden County, September 5, 1862, to Charles J. Winn, Watkinsville, Georgia, regarding marching and battles; dated Athens, August 7, 1865, introducing "a good clerk Asa Winn who visits Atlanta with the object of getting into business ..."; dated Atlanta, Georgia, July 16, 1867, "To whom it may concern," regarding A.
