Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteDaniel de Bruce Hack (1787-1848), built the Richmond Factory, a cotton and wool mill, in 1834 near Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia. Scope and ContentThe collection consists mainly of correspondence between Daniel de Bruce Hack Sr. and family and friends. Business correspondences regard Hack's involvement in the Richmond Factory (Augusta, Georgia). Also included are letters in the 1840's from William Schley, Philip Schley, and Dr. Edward Eve of Augusta, Georgia; a few Civil War letters; and the reproduction of a letter from Daniel de Bruce Hack to his cousin William Hack, regarding Sherman's March. The collection contains receipts (for taxes, purchase of slaves, etc.); a reproduction of Hack's amnesty oath; and one unidentified photograph (possibly the Richmond Factory). The first item in the collection is genealogy of the Hack family.
