Historical Note

Barry McDonald Staples (d. 2005), a University of Georgia graduate, was an attorney, teacher, and environmentalist from Carrollton, Georgia.

Scope and Content

The collection consists of photographs and slides taken by and of Barry Staples from 1972-1979. Images depict parks, natural areas, rivers and streams, and wildlife management areas Staples visited, but also portray Staples during lectures, social events, in the office, library, and field. A disbound scrapbook contains photographs from Big Hornsby Lake, Lewis Island; Sea Horse Key; Murder Creek Special Management Area; Horsepasture River; Okefenokee Swamp; Alcovy River Swamp; Congaree Swamp; Spring Creek; Shell Bluff, Savannah River; Kolomoki Creek, Clay County, Georgia; Cooper Creek; and Beech Creek. The collection also includes some writings, clippings, and a Georgia Bar Association convention pin (1942) belonging to Earl Staples Carrollton.
