Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteAlfonoso Paso (1926-1978) was a Spanish playwright. His first comedy came in 1947, but he became more conservative as theater did in the 1950s and 1960s. His 1963 play "El canto de la Cigarra" was shown on Broadway, it was the first Spanish authored play to be on Broadway. In the 1970s, he experimented with journalism. Scope and ContentThe collection contains listings of monthly periodicals in Spanish from a clipping service in Spain entitled "The News." Clippings relate to Paso and productions of his plays and range from 1960-1967. All clippings file envelopes are addressed to John C. Dowling, who was installed as the Chairman of the Department of Spain and Portugal at Indiana University and was a professor of foreign languages in Texas. Also included is a pamphlet of biographical information.
