Laura McManus collection of Laurel Falls Camp memories
Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteLaura McManus was a camper at Laurel Falls Camp for Girls, in Clayton, Georgia. Scope and ContentThe collection consists of photograph albums, clippings, printed material, and essays collected and constructed by Laura McManus, pertaining to Laurel Falls Camp and Lillian Smith, from 1925-1966. Photographs (several of which are annotated and dated) depict campers and counselors; and a scrapbook made in the craft shop at Laurel Falls, contains drawings of leaves and photographs portraying campers participating in camp activities, such as dances, archery, performances, and cabin life. Of special interest is I, Laura, a booklet made by McManus upon her return to Camp in 1950, containing photographs from her time at Camp Laurel in 1935. The collection also includes a journal article by Lillian Smith, and issues of The North Georgia Review and Pseudopodia (both edited by Smith).
