 Georgia Water Management Campaign collection
Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteJust as streams flow together to create a mighty force, the Georgia Water Management Campaign (GWMC) is a collaborative venture between several Georgia organizations that form a collective touchstone for state water policy: the Association County Commissioners of Georgia, Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD), Georgia Municipal Association and the Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority. These organizations were prompted to link up when they recognized a pressing need: to help local governments who are facing major challenges as they work to protect and manage their water resources. Water has always been important. It was seen as a critical issue in 1998 when the GWMC's first Water Resources Leadership Summit was held. Since then, key issues like the following have occurred in Georgia: the three-year drought and attendant watering restrictions, water wars, moratoriums on withdrawals and discharge, federal court actions regarding the Chattahoochee River, among others.
