Historical Note

Phil Hall Crawford was born in Due West, South Carolina. He was a graduate of Erskine College with a AB degree in Education and received his Masters Degree at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. Phil Crawford was a United States Army veteran where he was a 1st Lt. and served in overseas tours in North Africa and Italy for 2 1/2 years. He was a retired educator in the public school system in Georgia having taught for 34 years in Thomaston and Griffin, Georgia public schools. He died on November 7, 2006. Scope and Content

The collection consists of letters from Phil Crawford to his wife (and some letters from his wife back to him) during his service in World War II. Most of the letters are about areas that he was stationed in, including England, North Africa and Italy.
