Kell family papers
Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteJohn McIntosh Kell (1823-1900), son of John and Margery Spalding Baillie Kell of Darien, Georgia, married Julia Blanche Munroe of Macon, Georgia. During the Civil War, Kell served as an officer in the Confederate Navy. After the war, he served as Georgia's Adjutant-General from 1886 until his death in 1900. Scope and ContentThe collection consists of papers of the Kell family from 1857-1914, 1945. The papers contain the manuscript of John McIntosh Kell's book RECOLLECTIONS OF A NAVAL LIFE; an untitled manuscript by Kell's daughter Evelyn Kell d'Antignac regarding the friendship of slaves for their masters; correspondence from Kell and his wife, Blanche to their daughter Carolyn Kell at Fauquier Institute in Virginia and between other family members and friends; a diary (1907-1908) of Blanche Kell; photographs of family and shipmates of Kell; and a biographical sketch of Kell.
