Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteSydney C. Heindel, soldier with the U.S. Army's Ordnance Heavy Automotive Maintenance Company, stationed in China and India during World War II. Scope and ContentThe collection mainly consists of correspondence of Sydney C. Heindel, Jr. to his parents in Cornelia, Georgia, from 1942-1946. Heindel's letters detail his training at military camps and schools in California, Nebraska, and at the Army Specialized Training Program (Stanford University, California). Heindel also writes from China and India, describing his duties with the Maintenance Company, the locales, news of family and friends, books he has read, and military social life.
