Historical Note

George Anderson Mell (1852-1931) was a banker in Athens, Georgia. He married Bessie Rutherford (1855-1894), the founder of Athens Industrial Home (later Bessie Mell Industrial Home) in 1884. After Bessie's death, George married Lurene Howard and they had four children.

Scope and Content

This collection contains correspondence, biographical material, clippings, and other papers relating to the Lucy Cobb Institute, Athens, Georgia.
