Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteDavid Henry Ansley (1829-1897) married Sarah Ann Neal Burge (1837-1906); their daughter Sarah Graves Ansley (1863-1929) married James Gardner Paine, Sr. (1860-1933); and their son James Gardner Paine, Jr. (1888-1950) married Anne Platt Reeves (1888-1952). The Ansleys resided in Augusta, Georgia. Scope and ContentThe collection consists of papers of the Paine family of Clarke County (Ga.) and Ansley family of Augusta (Ga.) from 1848-1952. Includes correspondence; genealogical information on the Burge, Graves, Paine, and Ansley families; photographs, and a scrapbook. Correspondents include Sarah Ann Neal Burge, David Henry Ansley, Sarah Graves Ansley, James Gardner Paine, Sr., F.A. Rutherford, and James Gardner Paine, Jr.. Included are correspondence from F.A. Rutherford of the 23rd Alabama Infantry Regiment during the Atlanta Campaign, from James G. Paine, Jr. while serving in World War II and relating to his interest in breeding hounds for hunting, from Anne Platt Reeves Paine to her mother-in-law while living in the Philippines, and a typescript of the history of the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church (Newton County, Ga.).
