Jasper Dorsey collection
Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteJasper Newton Dorsey was born in Marietta, Georgia on January 19, 1913. He attended the University of Georgia School of Journalism and received his degree in 1936. In 1937 he joined the Southern Bell Telephone Company, thus beginning his long business career with that utility. He remained with Southern Bell and later became Vice President and chief executive official of that company, retaining this position until his retirement in 1978. Dorsey is a member of many social organizations and clubs and has recieved numerous awards throughout his career, including Alumni of the Year (1976). A few clubs he held membership in include: Blue Key National Honor Fraternity, Sphinx Honor Society and Gridiron. He was also President of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, President of the University of Georgia Alumni Association, and the head of the University of Georgia Foundation. Scope and ContentThe collection consists of correspondence, business papers and printed material concerning the University of Georgia, Southern Bell, Georgia Press Institute, Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation, Blue Key, National Press Club, and misc. state and local organizations. Included in the collection is a scrapbook, personal correspondence, and clippings.
