John Carter account book
Collection DescriptionScope and ContentThe collection consists of an account book of John Carter for Merchants' and Planters' (1829-1836) and the Swiftcreek Sawmill (1836-1837) both located in Macon, Georgia. The ledger's entries contain the date, customer name, item purchased, and price describing trade with planters in middle and southern Georgia. Additional entries pertain to the recovery of runaway slaves and the hire and management of boathands, mill hands, and farm hands.
