 John McIntosh Kell letters
Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteJohn McIntosh Kell (1823-1900), son of John and Margery Spalding Baillie Kell of Darien, Georgia, married Julia Blanche Munroe of Macon, Georgia. During the Civil War, Kell served as an officer in the Confederate Navy. After the war, he served as Georgia's Adjutant-General from 1886 until his death in 1900. Scope and ContentThe collection consists of two letters: dated Georgia Naval Steamer Savannah, Savannah, March 22, 1861, to "My dear Sir," signed "John McIntosh Kell," regarding the actions of Commodore Josiah Tattnall and the removal of guns from Fort Clinch, Florida to Fort Pulaski, Georgia; dated Georgia Naval Steamer Savannah, Savannah, March 25, 1861, to "My beloved wife," signed "John McIntosh Kell," regarding Georgia social news.
