John S. and Aldon F. Thompson papers
Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteJ.S. Thompson and Aldon F. Thompson lived in Conyers, Georgia. J.S. was in contact with numerous companies at the turn of the century, including Chattanooga Medicine Company, A.B. Greene Cider Company, and The System Company. He was a traveling salesman and subscription agent with his brother. He briefly worked for the American Raincoat Company. Aldon F. Thompson was a C. P. A. in Georgia and was elected to the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants in 1914. Together, the Thompsons developed the ledger record system which became known as the Thompson Ledger. Scope and ContentThe collection chiefly consists of mercantile records from 1890-1968. The Thompson papers cover early automotive, agricultural, clothing, and dry goods businesses. There are financial records, some business correspondence, brochures, and advertising ephemera mainly of the Conyers, Georgia area. A few letters of a personal nature are addressed to Miss Katherine Smith of Conyers. There are also some ledger notes for the Chattanooga Medicine Company.
