Horn books
Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteThe horn book received its name from the thin, translucent layer of horn which was placed over the simple text to protect it from children's little fingers. The text was usually the alphabet, the arabic numerals, and the Lord's Prayer, which was written or printed on a piece of paper. Scope and ContentThe collection consists of two modern day reproductions of a Horn Book, accompanied by descriptive sheets.
