For almost fifty years he served as professor of ancient languages and chief administrator at Mercer University and the University of Georgia, and he also held leadership roles in the Southern Baptist and Georgia Baptist Conventions. His greatest influence as a moderator of numerous religious and educational assemblies earn him the designation "prince of parliamentarians." Mell from James Stewart. Stewart is contemplating doing a series of sermons of various denominations of Georgia. These, along with a portrait of the author, will be published in the "Georgia Pulpit." Stewart wants Mell to send a sermon along with an ambrotype for publication. Stewart wants to change the purpose and name of the "Southern Methodist" and the "Georgia Pulpit" will be its successor.
