Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteGeorge Wymberley Jones De Renne (1827-1880), planter and bibliophile, (son of George Jones (1766-1838), physician), was known for his collection of over 1300 volumes collected from 1844-1861; most of this collection pertained to Georgia history. He had three children with his wife Mary Wallace Nuttall De Renne: Wymberley Jones De Renne (1853-1916), Letitia De Renne (1860-1890), and Kentwyn De Renne (1862-1891), who continued their father's legacy of collecting and printing books related to Georgia's history. Wymberley Jones De Renne married Laura Norris and their children included Wymberley Wormsloe De Renne (b. 1891) and Elfrida De Renne (Barrow). Scope and ContentThe collection consists of miscellaneous correspondences, notes, and documents collected by the De Renne family pertaining almost wholly to historical figures important in the development of Georgia as a colony and state.
