Reaves (1838-1917), his wife Mary Powell (1846-1916), their daughter Anna (married to Jim Paine, Jr.) and his children from his previous marriage, to Annie Powell, Rufus K. Jr., Sidney Powell (S. P.), and May (Snead) of Athens, Clarke County, Georgia. Rufus K. Reaves was a merchant in Athens and Northeast Georgia, his firm was first known as Center & Reaves and later as Reaves Warehouse Company. He served as a short term mayor of Athens from 1887-1888. Scope and ContentThe collection consists of papers of Rufus K. Reaves and the Reaves family of Athens, Georgia from 1838 to 1941. Includes correspondence, maps, reports, legal documents, accounts, receipts, and tax information pertaining to business and mining activities of Reaves and the Loud Hydraulic Hose Gold Mining Company (White County, Ga.), purchased by Reaves in the 1880s. The collection also contains materials pertaining to business and legal activities of Rufus K. Reaves, Jr., as well as indentures and deeds. Also included are the related papers of George W.
