Collection Description

Historical Note

Alfred W. Brewerton was born in 1881 and died in the 20th century. He was a cartoonist, illustrator, and creator of the "Pam" cartoon strip. He worked for the New York World in 1903 and the Atlanta Journal and New York Herald in 1909. He also worked from 1910 to 1920. He later drew a soap opera strip "Pam" on a weekly basis from 1928-1943 and "The Dubbville Foursome" from 1922 to 1927.

Scope and Content

The collection consists of papers of Alfred W. Brewerton from 1898-1957. The papers include correspondence; original sketches and preliminaries of editorial cartoons, some pertaining to World War II; proofs of the "Pam" comic strip; and photographs. The correspondence, mainly from Frank Daniel of the Atlanta Journal (Ga.), discusses activities of the Journal staff, news of friends, and problems of promotion and syndication of the "Pam" strip.
