Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteDelta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was founded on January 13, 1913 at Howard University. With over 200,000 women in chapters located all over the world, Delta Sigma Theta is the largest amongst the nine traditionally African American Greek letter organizations. Eight women referred to as "The Great Eight" chartered the Zeta Psi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta at the University of Georgia on November 11, 1969. Through the Dance Marathon, the Miss Black University of Georgia Pageant, and other programs, the Zeta Psi chapter raises money for research, medical facilities, and scholarships. Scope and ContentThe collection consists of artifacts and printed materials documenting the activities of the Zeta Psi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta at the University of Georgia. The contents primarily date from the 1990s-2010s.
