Annual programs of composition: an evening with Edwin Gerschefski
Collection DescriptionBiographical/historical noteEdwin Gerschefski was a composer, pianist, and teacher. He was born in Meridian, CT on 19 June 1909 and died in Chattanooga, TN on 18 December 1992. His education included study at Yale University (1926-1931) and the Tobias Matthay Pianoforte School in London (1931-1933). He also studied with the renowned pianist Artur Schnabel and the noted music theorist Joseph Schillinger. Gerschefski held the positions of dean of the music school at Converse College (1945-1959), head of the music department at the University of New Mexico (1959-1960), and head of the music department at the University of Georgia (1960-1980). Scope and ContentThe collection consists of three copies of the Sixth Annual Program of Compositions by Edwin Gerschefski, a record album titled An Evening with Edwin Gerschefski, performed May 29, 1969 in the Fine Arts Auditorium. The collection also contains three copies of the record album of the Seventh Annual Program of Composition by Edwin Gerschefski, performed at the Georgia Center Auditorium, February 12, 1970.
