Collection DescriptionBiographical/historical noteMary Frances Yates (Green) was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1916. She attended the University of Georgia from 1934 until her graduation in 1938. During her time at UGA, Mary Frances compiled an unique scrapbook that offers insight into what it was like to be a young woman in college in the mid-1930s. She wrote her autobiography, My happy life, in 2009. Scope and ContentThis collection holds the contents of a scrapbook that Mary Frances Yates (Green) created during her college years at the University of Georgia from 1934 through 1938. Mary Frances' scrapbook includes newsclippings, photographs, party invitations along with many other materials. This unique document provides a glimpse into a girl's life during the mid 1930s both as a UGA student and as a resident of Georgia. The other two items in the collection are a program from Mary Frances' 1938 UGA commencement and a copy of her 2009 autobiography.
