Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteWarren K. Agee served as dean of the School of Journalism at West Virginia University; as national executive officer of the Society of Professional Journalists and associate editor of the society's magazine, The Quill; as dean of the Evening College at Texas Christian University; as dean of the William Allen White School of Journalism at the University of Kansas; and as dean of the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia, a position he resigned in 1975 to return to teaching, writing and research. In 1973 Agee was awarded the Wells Key, the highest honor accorded a member of the Society of Professional Journalists, and was given the society's Distinguished Teaching in Journalism Award in 1987. In 2001, the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication honored Agee with the Distinguished Leadership Award. Scope and ContentThe collection consists of correspondence, speeches, writings, photographs, teaching notes, Grady School of Journalism annual reports, and Society of Professional Journalist files.
