Collection DescriptionBiographical/historcal noteSigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society, was founded in 1886. A non-profit society, its membership consists of approximately 75,000 scientists and engineers who are elected for membership in the Society as a result of either their research achievements or potential. The University of Georgia's own chapter of Sigma Xi began in 1946 with 31 charter members and is one of more than 500 chapters found throughout the world. Scope and ContentThe Sigma Xi collection consists of material dating from the 1930s through 1986. The first series is related to the creation of the Society at UGA in 1946; the second series holds financial records from 1947 to 1980; and the third series has general materials dating from 1960 to 1986. Organization and ArrangementThe collection has three series: Creation of UGA chapter, finances, and general.
