Loran Smith collection
Collection DescriptionBiographical/historical noteLoran Smith is a 1962 graduate of the University of Georgia where he captained the 1960 Bulldog track team and was named MVP his senior year. He created Georgia's pre-game Tailgate Show and the Head Coach's locker room show. Smith is the author of numerous books and his Banner-Herald column runs in more than 20 papers throughout the state. Smith's syndicated weekly radio show, "Sports Conversations," is heard on approximately 50 stations in Georgia. A past chairman of the State of Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, Smith was elected to the Georgia Sports hall of Fame in 1997. UGA Alumni Association Scope and ContentThis collection includes photocopied notes from a 1956 speech by Mary Morris Miller to the Newcomers group of the University Women's Club. Audiovisual materials include Loran Smith's interviews with Governor Zell Miller in 1991, Governor Sonny Perdue, and 101 year old UGA alumnus Louise Jordan from 2014. One can make a request for a public use copy but the ability to convert an item is dependent upon the format and condition of the recording.
