President Jere Morehead Investiture collection
Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteJere W. Morehead became the University of Georgia's 22nd President on July 1, 2013. He received his law degree from the University of Georgia in 1980 and was the first alumnus of UGA to be named as its President in more than forty-five years. Over his career Dr. Morehead has received numerous awards and honors such as the Josiah Meigs Award and the Distinguished Service Scroll Award. He previous served as an Assistant United States Attorney with the Department of Justice from 1980 to 1986 and has been the Meigs Professor of Legal Studies in the Terry College of Business since 1986. He has published scholarly articles and co-authored several books. He previously was the editor-in-chief of the American Business Law Journal and was included in Georgia Trend's list of the Most Influential Georgians for two years. Scope and ContentThis collection consists mainly of letters and certificates sent from officials of universities and colleges around the United States. These documents congratulate Dr. Jere Morehead on his investiture as the new President of the University of Georgia on July 1, 2013. Also included in the collection are a token and a silver medal presented to Morehead as part of his investiture. Additionally there are invitations, programs and a banner produced for the ceremony.
