Collection Description

Historical Note

Demographer Douglas Bachtel began working at UGA in 1980 as an Extension Rural Sociologist in the Community Development Department of what is now UGA Extension. In 1992, he became a professor with the Department of Housing and Consumer Economics in the College of Famiy and Consumer Sciences. During his career he published and/or edited numerous articles and outreach reports. He also contributed to many proceedings and presentations. In addition, he served as the editor of the Georgia County Guide, the Georgia Municipal Guide and the Georgia Housing Guide.

Scope and Content

This collection consists of items either created or collected by noted Georgia demographer Doug Bachtel. His collection includes a wide variety of (mostly) Georgia related demographic studies. Some of the studies included are those involving health, economics, household/community/school drug use, transportation and the State's "Black Belt". The collection also contains Bachtel's vita materials and information related to his numerous reports, projects, and publications.
