Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteDr. Sharon Nickols came to the University of Georgia from the University of Illinois where she was director of the School of Human Resources and Family Studies. In 1991, she became the fifth person to hold the position of Dean of UGA's College of Family and Consumer Sciences since its creation in 1933 as the School of Home Economics. From 1991 until 2006 she also served as the Janette M. Barber Distinguished Professor. After stepping down as dean, Nickols was the Professor Emerita of the College's Financial Planning, Housing and Consumer Economics Department from 2006 through 2012. She currently lives in Dallas, Texas where she concentrates on conducting historically based research. Scope and ContentSharon Nickols' collection includes material from her work with the University of Illinois and other institutes but mainly consists of items related to her position as Dean and Professor Emerita at UGA's College of Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS). Formats include research files, studies, correspondence, publications, and speeches. Topics of interest include UGA Home Economics Club, time management for homemakers, family economics, and the administration of FACS. Organization and ArrangementThe collection is divided into six series: conference and speeches, convocation and Honors Day talks, publications, research on time management, awards and certificates, and Family and Consumer Sciences.
