Collection Description

Historical Note

Dr. Atherton Seidell was an Associate Member of the Medical Library Association and a renowned research chemist. He is credited with several contributions to modern chemistry, especially in the field of vitamin research, and was the author of numerous research publications. Seidell was also an early advocate of the distribution of medical literature by means of micofilm and photostates and developed the first Current List of Medical Literature which later became the Index Medicus and then Medline. In addition, he was one of the founders of the American Documentation Institute and developed the Seidell microfilm viewer.
