Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteCharles B. and Joy Eason Hopkins are a husband and wife team working to provide community living solutions and occupational trainging for people with disabilities. Charles was Deputy Director of the Georgia Department of Human Resources' Office of Developmental Disabilities. Joy Eason is a former member of the Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities and a consultant with Marc Gold and Associates and advocate for typical employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Marc Gold and Associates was founded in 1976 by Dr. Marc Gold to provide training, management, and organization for families and invidividuals with disabilities. MG&A employs a network of consultants specializing in community living and employment opportunities. Scope and ContentThis collection contains records documenting The Georgia Project and its Try Another Way approach to occupational training for people with disabilities. Included are briefing books and conference proceedings, information regarding educational standards and workforce training, correspondence, training videos, and literature aimed at employers to encourage the hiring of individuals with disabilities into typical work environments. Besides Try Another Way, the collection contains records pertaining to the Joy of Training program, the direct support certificate program for Georgia community colleges, and Partnership 2000, a grant-funded project to expand Georgia's support of employment oppotunities for people with disabilities. Organization and ArrangementThis collection retains the donor's original arrangement scheme. Administrative InformationConditions Governing AccessThis collection contains audiovisual materials. Reference copies of the audiovisual recordings are available upon request. Research requests will be filled as soon as possible and will be dependent upon the condition of the recordings.
