Collection DescriptionBiographical NoteEdward Harman "Ed" Lindsey, Jr. was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives from 2005-2014 as a member of the Republican party. During that time, he chaired the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Education from 2009-2010 and served as Majority Whip from 2010-2013. Lindsey first ran for Georgia State Senate in 2000 but was defeated in the Republican primary. Four years later he was elected to represent the 54th district (north Fulton County) in the Georgia House of Representatives. He went on to serve five terms, running unopposed fro 2006-2010. In the General Assembly Lindsey was active in the areas of criminal justice reform, healthcare, charter schools, and immigration. This included co-sponsoring the Georgia Health Care Freedom and ACA Noncompliance Act, which sought to prevent the use of state tax dollars to administer the Affordable Care Act, and the Illegal Immigration Reform and Enforcement Act that mandated statewide use of e-verify to confirm the immigration status of job applicants. In 2013 Lindsey announced a run for Georgia's 11th congressional district to replace Phil Gingrey (who had stepped down to run for the vacant US Senate seat created by the forthcoming retirement of Saxby Chambliss. He finished fourth in the Republican primary, which was won by State Senator Barry Loudermilk, who won the uncontested general election. Lindsey retired from the General Assembly in 2014 to serve on a special committee tasked with addressing Georgia's transportation issues. Scope and ContentThe collection documents Lindsey's legislative career and election campaigns from 2000-2013. At present, the collection only has box-level description detailing in broad strokes the content of each container. Legislative files are grouped by session and filed under the names of specific bills or issues. The electronic records contain a range of legislative, campaign, and political documents, but are maintained separately from the paper records. Organization and ArrangementThis collection is divided into four series: Campaign files, Legislative and political files, Audiovisual recordings, and Electronic records. Administrative InformationConditions Governing AccessThis collection is open for research. This collection contains digital files. To access these files, please request the folders you would like through the finding aid using your research account. An archivist will be in contact with you to explain how to access the files. Please note that not all file formats are currently supported by the library for research use. This collection contains audiovisual materials. Reference copies of the audiovisual recordings are available upon request. Research requests will be filled as soon as possible and will be dependent upon the condition of the recordings.
