Biographical Note

Dwight L. Freshley is Emeritus Professor of Speech Communication at the University of Georgia. His research has included studies of organizational communication and Southern oratory. Dr. Freshley was the first head of UGA's Department of Speech Communication and served in that capacity from 1969 to 1984. He was also the first person to serve in all three of the Southern States Communication Association's major offices: editor of the journal, executive secretary, and president. He is the author or editor of numerous books and publications on speech communication and related subjects, including his 1997 book, Voice of Georgia: Speeches of Richard B. Russell, 1928-1969, co-edited with Calvin McLeod Logue.
