Jeannette Rankin Foundation Records
Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteThe Jeannette Rankin Foundation was established in 1976 at the bequest of Jeannette Rankin "to assist mature unemployed women workers." Since 1978, the Foundation provided millions of dollars in scholarships to women thirty-five years or older who were aiming to pursue vocational training or undergraduate education. In 2008, the Foundation changed its name to Jeanette Rankin Women's Scholarship Fund to better reflect the organization's mission. Jeanette Rankin was the first woman elected to the U.S. Congress in 1916 and supported women's rights throughout her entire life. The Foundation was founded in hopes of continuing her achievements.
